Sense-T has marked an exciting milestone with the establishment of a spin-off company, Sense-Co, by the University of Tasmania.
Sense-T and Sense-Co will work side-by-side at the University towards a shared vision but each with a distinct focus. Sense-T will continue to deliver its innovative research agenda, while Sense-Co will focus on commercial opportunities.
Founding Sense-T Director Ros Harvey will move over to Sense-Co to lead the establishment of the company. Ms Harvey will oversee the Alpha Trial, which is testing new agricultural sensing technology developed by Sense-T, and further develop the commercial strategy to take these to market in 2015.
Dr Mike Briers returns home to Tasmania to take on the role of Acting Sense-T Director. Dr Briers will oversee Stage 2 Sense-T research projects, expanding the current agricultural focus into areas such as freight and logistics, tourism, health, financial instruments and information technology.
As a University of Tasmania alumni and founder of the hugely successful financial data organisation, Sirca, Dr Briers brings a wealth of experience to the role.
The first item on the agenda for both leaders will be establishing their teams. A number of Sense-T staff will move across to work for Sense-Co and there will be a range of new roles advertised across both organisations in the coming months.
